Germany vs South Korea

Germany vs South Korea live stream info, channel: How to watch World Cup 2018 on TV and online

Germany hopes its magic against Sweden continues against South Korea on Wednesday as it fights for a chance to move on to the round of 16 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Germany is leveled with Sweden on points (three) but has a better goal differential. It can go through with a draw as long as Mexico beats Sweden, while a victory and Sweden dropping points will also see them through.

The teams have no new major injuries and are expected to be close to full strength. German defender Mats Hummels, who missed the Sweden match, returned to training and is expected to play in this one.

Here’s how you can watch the match and more. And be sure to return a half an hour before kickoff for our live blog of the game:

Germany midfielder Sebastian Rudy has been ruled out of the team’s final group game against South Korea at the World Cup after suffering multiple fractures to his nose.

Coach Joachim Loew said Tuesday on the eve of the match that Rudy hadn’t recovered after undergoing surgery.

Rudy picked up the injury during his team’s 2-1 win over Sweden last week. He was forced to leave the pitch after a Swedish player’s boot slammed into his nose in the first half as he was on the ground.

Loew said it wouldn’t make sense to make Rudy play with a protective mask. “It’s two or three days too early,” he said.

The German coach will also be without defender Jerome Boateng, who is suspended after getting sent off against Sweden. “All other players are available,” Loew said.
I could not believe how bad Germany were against Mexico but they showed why they are world champions with the way they rescued themselves so late on with their win over Sweden.

They surely won’t have any more slip-ups this time, against a South Korea side who have been beaten in both their games so far.

Golden Knights vs. Capitals: Predictions, odds, schedule for 2018 Stanley Cup Final

The 2018 Stanley Cup finalists are set, and it’s … not at all who most people predicted.

The Capitals, a poster child for playoff heartbreak in their 43 years of existence, meet the Golden Knights, an expansion team seeking to complete the most improbable championship run in the history of North American professional sport. The series begins Monday, May 28, in Las Vegas, and could extend all the way to June 13, when a Game 7 would become the cherry on top of what’s been one of the most unpredictable Stanley Cup playoffs in recent memory.

Game 2: May 30 at Vegas, 8 p.m. (NBC, CBC, Sportsnet, fuboTV)
Game 3: June 2 at Washington, 8 p.m. (NBC, CBC, Sportsnet, fuboTV)
Game 4: June 4 at Washington, 8 p.m. (NBC, CBC, Sportsnet, fuboTV)

*Game 6: June 10 at Washington, 8 p.m. (NBC, CBC, Sportsnet, fuboTV)
*Game 7: June 13 at Vegas, 8 p.m. (NBC, CBC, Sportsner, fuboTV)

This time last year, the fledgling Golden Knights had yet to select their roster. The wildest of imaginations couldn’t have anticipated they would be playing for a championship less than 12 months later. Even the hometown sports books weren’t enthusiastic, offering opening odds ranging from 150-1 to 500-1 for Vegas to win the Stanley Cup in its first year, a feat never accomplished in the NHL, let alone sports history.

GOLDEN STANDARD
How Vegas became the most successful expansion team in sports history

Led by Marc-Andre Fleury and his band of Golden Misfists, the Knights passed the preseason over/under of 26.5 wins by Jan. 2, toppled their projected season point total of 68.5 on Jan. 30 and won the Pacific Division on the way to setting every NHL expansion team record in the book.

As an encore, they sliced through the Western Conference playoff field, losing only three games out of 15 to reach the Stanley Cup Final. In completing the feat, they’d join the likes of 2016 Premier League champion Leicester City and the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” U.S. Olympic hockey team as the biggest long-shot champions ever.

The Capitals faced tall odds of their own, though the difference between these two franchises couldn’t be more stark. Cursed by decades of playoff disappointments, this year’s Capitals are a shell of the Presidents’ Trophy-winning juggernauts that perennially fell short in the Alex Ovechkin Era. After losing the first two games to the Blue Jackets in the opening round, it seemed they were headed for a similar fate.

MORE: Golden Knights among biggest betting long shots in sports history

Washington has gone 12-5 since, vanquishing the rival Penguins, a frequent foil in recent years, and their Game 7 demons to advance to the franchise’s first conference finals and Stanley Cup Final since 1998, when it was swept by Detroit.

Ovechkin, now 32, followed up an age-defying rebound season in which he led the NHL with 49 goals to author his greatest performance yet in pursuit of his elusive first Cup, joining runningmates Evgeny Kuznetsov and Braden Holtby as Conn Smythe front-runners.

Therein lies the great irony of this matchup. On one side, an opportunity to vindicate all previous shortcomings by delivering D.C. its first major professional sports championship since 1991. On the other, a franchise that knows only success, attempting to finish off a dream first season in the Sin City, of all places.

Sporting News’ NHL experts Brandon Schlager, Evan Sporer and Jim Cerny make their series predictions below.

None of them would be overly impressive scalps, even if they are all ranked higher than New Zealand by Fifa, though there is always something to be said about beating another country on their home soil – something the All Whites managed just once in four attempts against Oceania opposition during the last World Cup cycle, it should be noted.

Fritz Schmid’s squad may be inexperienced and short on proven goalscorers, but should still be strong enough to beat all three of those teams. The biggest concern will be finding the back of the net, with their ability to cope with hot conditions in Mumbai a close second – temperatures in excess of 30 degrees Celsius are expected, even with kickoffs set for 8pm local time.

They face Kenya first up on Sunday (2.30am NZT), who are missing their most recognisable player – Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama – and a whole host of others to boot, as this tournament clashes with domestic competitions and some clubs have stood firm in not releasing their players.

Kenya are hardly a global powerhouse regardless – the 28th-best nation in Africa, per Fifa’s rankings – with midfielder Clifton Miheso and forward John Mark Makwatta, who both play in Zambia, their key men.

Where they might have an advantage is recent match practice, as they played a pair of friendlies in the leadup to this tournament, losing to Swaziland 1-0, but beating Equatorial Guinea by the same margin, albeit with a slightly stronger squad.

Information out of the All Whites camp has been hard to come by, but Schmid did front a pre-tournament press conference on Thursday, alongside fullback Tom Doyle, who has not been confirmed as captain, but is considered a likely contender to wear the armband.

There are plenty of unknowns then, 36 hours out from the All Whites’ first match. While this is undoubtedly an excellent opportunity for a team who have found wins gainst the wider football world hard to come by, that also means the risk of embarrassment is high.
Ad Feedback

In embracing the tough conditions in Mumbai, Schmid compared them with the Pacific Island environments the All Whites have to conquer as part of World Cup qualifying, and said that is one reason why this tournament a worthwhile exercise.

“It’s good to be in such a demanding environment. Obviously coming out of the winter [in New Zealand], it’s a bit of a change, in addition to jet lag and long travel, but we’re trying to deal with it.”

There will be plenty of interest in how the All Whites will line up. Schmid should stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation he used in his first match in charge, a loss to Canada in March, and the greatest intrigue will surround who is used up front – Myer Bevan or Noah Billingsley – and in attacking midfield, where teenage creator Sarpreet Singh could make his first start.

India begin the tournament against Chinese Taipei on Saturday (2.30am NZT).

Justin Thomas earns headliner status at the Memorial Tournament this week by virtue of his newly-minted status at the No. 1 player in the world. You could be forgiven if his name happens to overshadowed by a couple of a guys named Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. In all, eight of the top 10 players in the world and 12 of the top 15 players in the FedExCup standings will be teeing off at Muirfield Village under the ever-watchful and critical-at-times eye of host Jack Nicklaus.

Woods is a five-time winner at Memorial, but hasn’t played here since 2015. It was a year ago on Memorial Day when Woods was arrested on DUI charges in Jupiter, Fla., hitting what was another brutal low-point in a career that has had a couple of deep valleys. The Memorial will be Woods’ ninth tournament since his return to semi-regular status on the PGA Tour in January. He has had four finishes in the top 12, spotlighted by a T-2 at Valspar, a T-5 at Bay Hill and T-11 at the Players Championship.

Muirfield Village Golf Club runs 7,392 yards at par 72 this week. This grouping should be the most interesting to watch. For one, it offers a mix of young, average and extensive experience. Two, it may be the only time this year when the lefties outnumber the righties. The left-handed hitting Watson, who almost quit playing a couple of years ago, has already won twice this year. Spieth’s winless skein runs back to The Open Championship last July. The other Lefty in his bunch ended a near-five-year-old winless run with a victory in the WGC-Mexico Championship. Mickelson has 43 PGA Tour wins but none at Murifield Village. The Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide always has been one of the premiere events on the PGA TOUR since its inception in 1976. And its status only seems to grow with legendary host Jack Nicklaus watching over the proceedings.

“It’s truly amazing to think that a tournament hosted by golf’s greatest champion in the game and played on one of the greatest golf courses in the game keeps getting better, but the Memorial Tournament continually rises in stature,” said Jim Nantz, longtime CBS Sports golf anchor. “For someone who treasures the sport and the history of the game as much as I do, it’s truly one of the great weekends of my year.”

Newly minted world No. 1 Justin Thomas heads a field that includes eight of the top in the world rankings, while five-time Memorial Tournament winner Tiger Woods returns for the first time since 2015. Along with Thomas, all of the other two-time winners on the PGA TOUR this season are entered: Justin Rose (No. 3 in the world and the 2010 Memorial winner), Columbus resident Jason Day, Bubba Watson and Patton Kizzire. It’s a reflection of what’s going on in the game of golf right now. For those of us who live the sport year-round, we’re seeing wonderful things, [particularly] where the game is going and how it’s trending. And the Memorial is one of those events that brings it all together. You can really sense that the players have a tremendously high regard for Jack Nicklaus and the tournament that he puts on.

Muirfield Village Golf Club can be an extremely tough test. We saw five-time winner Tiger Woods shoot 85 in the third round in 2015. But it also can yield some good scores. We’ve seen both extremes. There are certainly a lot of places where your game can be exposed in a hurry if you’re off by a fraction. It doesn’t take much, as evidenced by last year’s winner, Jason Dufner, shooting 77 on Saturday and rebounding and still winning. He was just a fraction off in the third round, and it cost him a pair of hockey sticks. I love risk-reward in golf; it brings the sport to a whole new level of drama. You take the best tournaments and the most memorable events we watch, and the term risk-reward is usually a part of it. Just look at major championship golf — and this really is major championship level. Look at what makes the Masters so great. It’s the risk-reward nature of Augusta National Golf Club.

You need highs mixed with the lows. You need the guy who pulls off the impossible shot and the guy who pays the penalty for coming up short. A young Jack Nicklaus knew what he was doing when he built Muirfield Village Golf Club all those years ago. It’s the perfect arena for golf at its best, golf at its most interesting. When Adam Scott became No. 1 for the first time, he won at Colonial (in 2014), so who’s to say we won’t see that kind of response from Justin Thomas? This is a style of golf course that Justin Thomas grew up on. He was raised in these parts. His family has Ohio ties. This should be right in his wheelhouse. The fact that he is No. 1 doesn’t come as any great shock. It comes at a time in golf when there could be a revolving door at the top of the game.

There have been guys over the years who have won this golf tournament whom you [would] least expect to win. There have been guys who won for the first time there, like a Kenny Perry and a Tom Lehman. Then you have Jack, Tom Watson, Fred Couples [who] always played well there, and Tiger with his remarkable record. Muirfield Village is a great showcase for many Hall of Famers, so you think about Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, or Jason Day, who has shown tremendous determination to get back to the top of the rankings. And there are many players who appear ready to add their name to the list of winners.

Journalist and author David Shedloski of Columbus, Ohio, has been covering golf since 1986, first as a daily newspaper reporter and later as a freelance writer for various magazines and Internet outlets. A winner of 23 national writing awards, including 20 for golf coverage, Shedloski is currently a contributing writer for Golf World and GolfDigest.com and serves as editorial director for The Memorial, the official magazine of the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. He is the author of five books and has contributed to three others, including the second edition of “Golf For Dummies,” with Gary McCord. His last book was a collaboration with Arnold Palmer for his final autobiography, “A Life Well Played,” published in 2016. He’s a fan of all Cleveland professional sports teams, the poor fellow. The PGA Tour heads to Dublin, Ohio this week for the Memorial Tournament, played at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village Golf Club. The event serves as the final tune-up before the U.S. Open for the top players in the world, many of whom skip next week’s FedEx St. Jude Classic to begin preparations.

The test Muirfield Village provides, plus the fact it’s Jack’s course, always makes for one of the stronger fields on the schedule for a non-major, non-WGC event. This year eight of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will tee it up, and that doesn’t include other main attractions like Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, who rank 19th and 80th respectively.

This will be the second time for these long-time rivals to face off in Houston. The game ended with a 2-2 draw, with Carlos Costly and Jerry Bengston scoring for Honduras while Rodolfo Zelaya and Rudi Corrales finding the net for El Salvador.

This game not only promises to be a good show on the field, but also in the stands. Due to the large following that both teams have in Houston and the passion of both fan bases, there is no doubt that the fans will be treated to an entertaining experience.

Sweden vs Denmark

With the World Cup around the corner it presents an interesting time to have a warm up friendly between two neighbouring countries as Sweden face off against Denmark this weekend. With their top stars not likely to be playing at full tempo as they look to avoid any injuries ahead of this summers tournament, and with the managers of both nations likely to experiment with players and tactics, we think that backing there to be less than 2.5 goals scored is the best way to go in this fixture.

After being drawn in a difficult qualifying group, the Swedes held off a late surge from Holland to finish second behind France and advance into the play-offs. Again the odds were against them but they managed to edge out Italy in a 1-0 aggregate win to book their place at Russia this summer.

Their reward is a first finals tournament since 2006 and after being drawn in a group alongside Germany, Mexico and South Korea, they will fancy their chances of being able to make it into the knockout stages. Before they can make their travel plans, however, they need to get some form under their belt.

The Swedes are known for being a well-drilled unit which was unbeaten at home in five qualifiers, including a 2-1 defeat of France, but they do have a bit to prove following friendly losses to Chile and Romania in March.

The Danes have also had a pretty poor time since they qualified for the World Cup and although they managed a 1-0 win over Panama in a friendly in March and a 0-0 draw with Chile a few days later, their lack of goals in that period will be a concern which will need to be addressed if they are to have a successful tournament.

After finishing as runners-up in their qualifying group behind Poland, Denmark blitzed the Republic of Ireland 5-1 in the second leg of a play-off. Age Hareide’s side have been rewarded with a group of France, Peru and Australia at the World Cup and are rated second favourites to progress from that pool.

The Danes have gone 13 games without defeat, including 0-0 friendly draws with Germany and Chile. Like their hosts, they are a tough defensive unit and with the star quality of Christian Eriksen, they have the capabilities to do well in the tournament.

However, given that neither side will be fully up to speed following a break at the end of the club season, we cannot see there being anything to choose between the sides. For those of you looking for something a little braver than the goals market, we think backing a stalemate looks to represent some good value.

Belgium vs Portugal

Belgium and Portugal will face a major test ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Saturday, as the two teams go head-to-head in Brussels.

Portugal are the current European champions, while Belgium enter the World Cup with hype and momentum after a record-breaking qualifying campaign. Both teams are filled with talent known for their scoring exploits, so for neutral fans, this should be must-watch television.

There’s no denying Belgium’s qualifying campaign was impressive―the Red Devils went unbeaten, winning all but one of their matches and setting a new record for goals scored in a UEFA qualifying group with 43. Per UEFA.com’s Paul Saffer, world champions Germany equalled the amount.

Belgium feasted on a number of smaller teams―the likes of Gibraltar and Estonia never stood a chance―and have impressed against some of the continent’s best as well in recent years, with wins over France, the Netherlands and Italy. Counting friendlies, they haven’t lost since 2016.

But the Red Devils have shown vulnerabilities against solid teams lately, including a 3-3 draw against Mexico, a narrow 1-0 win over Japan and a draw with Russia last year.

In those matches, the Belgians struggled with each team’s quicker, more athletic players out wide and up top―another reminder of their relative weakness at the full-back position.

Portugal have plenty of attacking talent and will provide the hosts with a stern―and needed―test ahead of the World Cup. We’ll learn whether the hype is legitimate on Saturday.

Can Portugal’s Defence Survive the Onslaught?

The current European champions wasted a 2-0 advantage in their last friendly, settling for a 2-2 draw against Tunisia, a team not expected to do much at the World Cup.

That’s a bad omen for Portugal, who enter the tournament with some question marks. They’re missing a number of depth players who played a key role two years ago, including Barcelona’s Andre Gomes and Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches, who have since regressed.

On top of the absentees, there have been some changes to the starting XI as well. One of those changes came in central defence, where

Still, expectations may be made for the two veterans Mexico is desperately hoping to have in Russia.

Potential starting XI: Ochoa; Salcedo, Ayala, Moreno, Layun; J. Dos Santos, Herrera, Fabian; G. Dos Santos, Hernandez, Lozano
Matt Phillips and Lewis Stevenson have left the squad after playing against Peru with Sporting Kansas City forward Johnny Russell joining up with the team.

Potential starting XI: Bain; Paterson, Mulgrew, O’Donnell, Mckenna; McLean, McGinn; Murphy, McGeouch, McTominay; Russell

Mexico is favored to win with dabblebet putting El Tri at 2/7 to win with a draw the next likely outcome at 4/1. A Scotland win is at 10/1.
The deadline is here. Or maybe it isn’t.

While fitness worries about defender-midfielder Diego Reyes and midfielder Andres Guardado continue, the June 2 deadline Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio set for all players to be fit doesn’t seem so firm. Mexico wants those two on the field in Russia and may give them as long as possible to get fit for the group game, even going against the original plan and traveling to Denmark with more than 23 players.

Mexico would like to see them on the field Saturday against Scotland as well, in what should be a triumphant send-off for El Tri in front of a sold-out crowd at the Estadio Azteca. It might be too soon for them, but Osorio also hopes Giovani dos Santos will be able to start and prove he’s fit to play significant time.

Rafa Marquez, who at age 39 is set become the third player ever to play in five World Cups, may also get a look after missing Mexico’s scoreless draw in Wales because he can’t travel to the United States.

Alfredo Talavera and Miguel Layun joined up with the team Tuesday after finishing their rest period from their European season, and all 27 players have been part of training this week – with Reyes and Guardado the players who have worked apart from the full group.

It’s an inexperienced Scotland team visiting Mexico City. Center back Charlie Mulgrew’s 35 caps lead the way with John McGinn’s eight caps good enough to put him second. Seven players made their Scotland debut in a 2-0 loss to Peru.
